Why I Focus On The Whole Person And Not Numbers...
My philosophy in treating all my clients is to focus on establishing a healthier relationship with food. Achieving healthier relationships with food is attainable through a combination of nutrition education and evidence based therapies utilizing my dual credentials in dietetics and professional counseling. I customize nutrition therapy for each individual utilizing my preferred cognitive behavioral therapy and mindful/conscious/intuitive eating modalities that focus on mental perception and awareness. This means I work on finding cognitive distortions in thinking and habits that influence eating behaviors. Cognitive distortions are held sacred for their guidelines for behavior to gain a sense of safety, control, and identity. I work on challenging these distortions in both an educational and empathic way to avoid unnecessary power struggles. I remind my clients that it is ultimately their choice but that their disordered eating self urges them to act on false, incorrect, or misleading information and faulty assumptions due to cognitive distortions. I have found that my clients establish weight-related behaviors due to a set of beliefs, attitudes, and assumptions about the meaning of eating and body weight. I challenge disordered attitudes and beliefs as to interrupt and eventually stop the disordered eating behaviors. This establishes optimal health with a health at every size approach.
In addition, I work with my clients to ensure they learn what adaptive functions or disordered eating behaviors they are using and work through them to help internalize the ability to attain and maintain recovery. I educate them that their disordered behaviors are used to express inner self struggles and that by working through their underlying issues and resolving them their disordered eating behaviors will decrease and a healthier self will arise.

My sessions have been extraordinarily helpful. The information is useful and easy to apply. I am better informed and consequently better able to nourish myself appropriately. In addition to being helpful, my sessions have been enjoyable. Thank you, Angela.

Angela takes visiting a nutritionist to a whole new level! Instead of just living off of a strict meal plan, she helps to redefine the relationship with food.

Incredible experience. The informative, invigorating and motivating style and tailored approach is just what I needed, right when I needed it! It's the type of client, provider relationship that you know you can trust what you're being told. Clearly backed by equal halves of knowledge and passion for a clients best outcome.

Angela has been great for me, my son and my daughter to work with. We all learned so much about nutrition and what to watch for to improve our health as well as signs to look for to maintain a healthy diet.

Angela helped me tremendously!! I got caught up in wanting to look a certain way that I ended up fearing food. I learned to trust myself and enjoy food again and I have Angela to thank for that. Overcoming something like this isn't easy but she always knew what to say to make me fight harder. I never thought i'd be able to JUST eat but it happened and i've never been happier. If you're looking to better your relationship with food and/or your body image Angela is where it's at!!

After seeing countless therapists and doctors over the last 15 years of my process, Angela is the only one I have chosen to stick with and been able to be completely honest with. In addition, I trust her with anyone I know who might be looking for help. She is patient, knowledgeable, non judgemental and loving. You can tell helping others with food and their relationship with themselves is a passion for her and not just a job.

I've worked with Angela Lovell, RD for several years, caring for mutual patients. She is an excellent dietitian for my teenage and young adult patients who are dealing with eating disorders and disordered eating. I highly recommend her for the outpatient care of eating disorders. She is one of the best!

My wife went to Angela to help with her diet. As my wife doesn't Yelp, she asked me to review for her. Angela really is fantastic. Extremely informative. Educated us and provided a very reasonable plan. I like how she lives in the real world and doesn't try to scare you into thinking you have to do everything she says or else..... And she helped very much so with the mental blocks associated changing dietary habits. She told us she has a Masters in counselling, and I definitely believe it!

Angela really helped me to not only confront a lifelong struggle with unhealthy eating, she also helped me confront some of my deep emotional issues that fueled the bad relationship with food. I no longer binge until I feel horrible or seek the comfort of food when I have had a tough day. I view food as a precious fuel resource that I can find enjoyment in as well. I make better choices now because my motivation is giving my body the sustenance it craves, rather than the unhealthy options that once wrecked me.

I am very thankful to have found Angela and to have her support through my journey to a healthier life. She not only helps you understand how food should work with your body, but how your mind should work with food, which has been key to my personal positive change. She didn't just help me change my grocery list, she helped change my lifestyle, all the while, never making me feel judged or self-conscious. Her nutrition knowledge is unparalleled, but the fact that she can also counsel you on the barriers that go deeper than food has been one of the most important aspects of my growth as a person struggling with weight issues. I look forward to every session because I know I am going to learn something that can only help and get to talk with a person who genuinely cares about my wellbeing.
